The TRIPURA STATE SCIENCE FAIR 2009 -10 was jointly organized by Tripura State Council for Science & Technology and State Council of Educational Research & Training, Tripura; held during December 26, 2009 – December 30, 2009 at Agartala.

RIELIT - Agartala is proud to have bagged the First prize in this event among the National/Regional laboratories, Govt. Departments and Autonomous Organizations. Brief of the projects displayed are given below:

1.     Robotic Land Rover:

It is a working lab prototype of a Land Rover Robot. It is controlled by a remote. It has two modes of operation – IR mode for short distance control and RF mode for long distance control. It is based on digital logic. Neither any microcontroller nor any programming has been used. The prototype can be used for educational purpose and with further modifications it can used in various ways – taking inside video of complicated city drains etc.

2.   Low Cost FM Transmitter:

It is a low cost circuit that can be used for transmitting FM signals. These signals can be received in the range of 200 to 300 meters, using current prototype. With further modification the range can be increased to 2km. The signal received is clear and distortion free. The cost is less than Rs 100/-.

3.   Water Level Indicator and Automatic Motor controller:

With the theme of save water and save electricity, it is a cost effective prototype which demonstrates the automatic turn OFF of water pump motor when the water tank is full and turn ON of the same when water tank is empty. Thus it stops the wastage of water as well as electricity.

4.   Line Follower Robot:

It is a working prototype of a robot that follows a fixed track made of high contrast color, preferably Black. It is based on principle of comparing two signals and correspondingly generating motor control signals for motion. An industry model of it can be used to transport heavy goods from one section of an industry to other section on a fixed path.

5.   Hazards of e-Waste:

The processing of electronic waste in developing countries causes serious health and pollution problems because electronic equipment contains some very serious contaminants such as lead, cadmium, beryllium and brominated flame retardants. Even in developed countries recycling and disposal of e-waste involves significant risk to workers and communities and great care must be taken to avoid unsafe exposure in recycling operations. An awareness campaign was displayed so the common people obtain knowledge of the hazards of the electronic waste materials bringing to the environment.

6.  Security through Obscurity:

Steganography is the art and science of writing hidden messages in such a way that no one, apart from the sender and intended recipient, suspects the existence of the message. Prototypes named HideImage and Unhideimage are external DOS command utilities developed in DOTNET 3.5 framework that hides a message in an image file and extracts the hidden message respectively and implementing the concepts of Steganography.

7.   A prototype of Virtual Library:

A web hosted software e-Library can be implemented in intranet client-server architecture. Server hosts the portable document files and a component converts the pdf files to a picture files at runtime one page at a time, a pdf reader like client end control displays the pictures. All the processing of pages are done at server end. Client may not require a pdf reader software in this case.

8.   Spreadsheet Inventory Management System:

A Microsoft – excel based software that can be implemented to keep records of daily business of an organization and generate bills, cash – memos etc.
